Camryn Manheim was born on 8 March 1961 in West Caldwell, new Jersey, US. She is the daughter of Jerome Manheim, a mathematics professor, and Sylvia, a teacher. She earned a BFA degree from UCSC in 1984 and a MFA degree from the New York University in 1987.
She actively works for human rights, and her work focuses on women’s rights, fat acceptance and gay rights. She has contributed to several charity works, and especially to RAINN. She is involved with Bet Tzedek Legal Services- The House of Justice. She is the mother of a son named Milo Jacob.
She was inclined towards acting from her high school days. Her interest in acting was born, after her participation in the Renaissance fair, at her high school.
She started working as sign language interpreter at hospitals. Her acting career includes roles in ‘The Practice’, an episode of Law and Order, ‘Elvis‘ (miniseries), ‘Chicago Hopes’, ‘Ghost Whisperer‘, ‘Family Guy’, ‘Will and Grace’, ‘Boston Public’ and ‘Ally McBeal’. She also made her appearance in ‘Two and a Half Men‘, ‘The L Word’, ‘How I Met Your Mother‘& ‘Hannah Montana‘.
She has acted in films like ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’, ‘Happiness’, ‘The Laramie Project’, ‘Scary Movie 3′, ‘Dark Water’, ‘An Unfinished Life’, etc. Her acting ventures also include ‘Sudden Impact’, ‘Cracking Up’, ‘Jeffrey’, ‘Mercury Rising’, ‘What Planet Are You From?’, ‘A Girl Thing’, and ‘Slipstream‘ etc.
She won a Golden Globe Award-1999 for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture for ‘The Practice’. She was nominated for the same award in 2006 in the category- Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for ‘Elvis‘. She won the Emmy Award-1998 for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for ‘The Practice‘. In 1999, she earned the nomination for the same award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for ‘The Practice’ and in 2005 for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for ‘Elvis‘. She was a nominee for the Screen Actors Guild Award for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for ‘The Practice‘ in 1999-2001. In addition to this, she earned the nominations for several other awards in vivid categories and she won some of them.
